We had completely satisfied our BBQ desire, so we searched for something in this area. The best review came for the "Smokey Pig" so we headed there after our afternoon of play. It featured something called "Monroe Co. style" barbeque. It is a vinegar-based sauce.
It was featured on a Food Network show, so we thought it would definitely be fun to try. We got there about 6:30 and they were closing at 7 - on a Saturday night! Seemed a little odd, but I guess they've figured out over the years how long their BBQ lasts and how late the customers come in. We waited in line and tried to decide what we would get.
They were already sold out of much (no ribs!), so we got a pulled pork sandwich with mac & cheese and vinegar slaw and the thin-sliced pork shoulder (their specialty) with baked beans and potato salad. Everything was delicious. The pork shoulder was very tough and chewy. This is what this is supposed to be and it was good, just very different. We would definitely try Monroe Co. BBQ again!
