Tenzi!

Grandpa's son Keith, his wife, and 2 granddaughters have moved to Waveland from Washington State.  Thankfully they were able to find a very nice house that was recently vacated and could get possession in less than 2 weeks of their offer. Unbelievable!

We had everyone over for dinner on Sunday and enjoyed getting to know them a bit more. The girls are in 7th and 8th grade at South. They are very social and are already making friends (and even have their eyes on a few boys).  Camden and the girls enjoyed each other, but it was obvious that they are in different stages of middle school life.

Nothing that a good round of Tenzi can't overlook...all three generations enjoyed playing each other.

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay

I thought I had 2 free passes to Holiday World and we made plans to go there this Saturday since Camden didn't have musical rehearsal.  Turns out I didn't, so we decided to try a different park.  King's Island was closed, so we checked out Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville.  The drive down was easy and the park was not crowded.  It was also a perfect day to be outside.  We grabbed a drink (free all day with our admission) and headed to rides.

Camden was brave enough to try Cyclos.  Kevin and I both opted out.  This is like a pendulum that eventually goes around a complete circle.  The one we watched while in line went over the top only once.  Her ride went 4 times!

She is to the right of the empty seat.

Next was Lightning Run.  Camden went the first time by herself and I joined her the second time.  It was a very smooth ride, but in all the inversions and corkscrews, you were dependent on that lap bar.  I am learning I am becoming less of a fan of extreme rides as I age.

But this girl has the thrill ride bug just like Kevin and I do/did.  Next up was Scream Extreme.  It was a really cool ride and she rode it early and late in the day.

She and I both rode a smaller coaster called Roller Skater.   It was very similar to the Toy Story coaster at Disney.  It was short and sweet, but still had some fun curves.

I have no pictures from the large wooden roller coaster called Thunder Run.  We all three rode it and I threw out my neck on the jerkiest ride I have ever been on.  Kevin loved it and Camden was okay with it, but didn't like that it hurt me - like "done for the day" and the next few as well.  I severely strained my neck.  No more wooden coasters for me...ever!

Camden decided to do the newest, most impressive one.  I wish I wasn't in such pain.  She and Kevin walked up together and when he left her to ride, she gave him a salute and said, "see ya after the storm."  He came back laughing so hard!  It ranked as her favorite ride of the day.

Next she did T3 and high swings.

She was about done by that time with rides, so we headed to the wave pool to enjoy about an hour in the water.

This wave pool was as rough as I have ever been in.  It was like the surf before a storm.  It was cool and refreshing though.

We rode a few rides again to end the night with a few games.  Camden totally smoked a family of 6 on the squirt gun game and won a large/jumbo prize - an adorable stuffed Dori.  No luck at the other games she tried.

We loved our day and will visit again soon!

Football & First Dance

Camden, Sophia and I went to the end of the Southmont football game on Friday night.  As soon as we pull in, Camden sees one of her good friends and there is lots of hugs and giggles.

Then we headed into the game.  The girls, like most every other child in the stadium, just walked around, connected with friends, and watched a few minutes of the game.

Promptly after the game ended, their first Jr. High dance begun.  Reports are that it was a good time and they were go glad to go.

Fried Cheesecake

The sign at the Big Dipper in town kept taunting Camden and I.  So we broke down and got the fried cheesecake on Sunday afternoon.

It exceeded expectations.

Airport Days

Our little municipal airport hosted it's annual Airport Days on Saturday.  It's just about a mile from our house, so at about 10 o'clock that morning, we started hearing planes circle.  They were giving free airplane rides to kids 8-17 and $30 helicopter rides.  Sophia spent the night so the four of us headed over shortly after it began.

Kevin took the kids around to some of the aircraft that were on display while I signed them up and waited in line.

They wanted to ride together, but most flights were 3 kids at a time and their were 3 "doubles" in front of us.  When they called for the next group, the guy said it would be easier on the pilot if they were in threes.  Camden and Sophia decided to split up and Camden headed with the first group.

Camden volunteered to be in the passenger's side.  I think she got the best seat...and view.

Once she got in the air, it was Sophia's turn.  A single seat plane was available, so she volunteered to go in it.  Again...another great option.

It was a beautiful day for a flight!  As you can imagine, they both LOVED it.

Where's Bandit?

Camden left her Build-a-Bear box on the floor and soon someone was claiming it as his new home.

Flipper Action

In an effort to work on her kick, the Wabash College Swim Coach recommended that Camden's student get flippers for her.  This helps naturally lift her legs and allows her to kick stronger without fighting the water.  It's a temporary fix but showed Camden that if she would raise her hips, her kick will be stronger.  The coach said that will eventually come with time and more repetition in the water to build her strength.

She was shocked at how fast it made her go.
