Birthday Loot

Camden has a pretty good imagination and likes to pretend.  We decided it was time to start building her dress-up stash.  Kevin and I bought a big treasure chest (found at a second hand store) that will hold her dress-up loot.  We encourgaged those who asked to buy things to put in the box.  She is all set for hours of play.

She got all kinds of hats, purses, shoes, glasses, masks, jewelry, and, of course, clothes.

Aunt Carole made several incredible outfits.  This gypsy (or "Aladdin" as Camden calls it) has a gold headband.  ReeRee made an amazing tutu.  GaGa and Grandma Pat bought princess gowns.  There will probably be lots of pictures in the future of Camden as various characters.

I think we are going to add hinges to the lid, but this chest is perfect..and filled!  And this doesn't even do justice to all the other presents she received.  She is a very blessed and loved girl.

Under the Sea Birthday Party

Saturday was Camden's birthday party.  A few weeks ago she told me she wanted a mermaid cake with a pink river.  That request lead to the theme of the party.  I bought a mermaid costume tail and we took pictures for the invitation.
From that point for the next two weeks until the party, she non-stop about the celebration.  She was slightly obsessed about her birthday.

Our menu for the day kept with the undersea theme.  We had grilled shrimp and baked flounder tacos.  I made pineapple salsa which supplemented the store-bought tomato salsa.  We bought guacamole and tortilla chips from the Tamale Place in Indy.  I also made coleslaw (to eat on the taco or as a side) and fresh corn salad with basil.  Finally, I carved a watermelon to look like a shark and served a fruit salad inside.

Her cake turned out well, too.  Not my favorite decorating attempt, but it fulfilled her request (and was simple to do).  It had three layers - a chocolate base with two small white tiers.  On top is a treasure chest, on the second tier sits the mermaid and a pink river flows down the side and a cross the base.  A pink dolphin is swimming in the water.  There are also pink, yellow, and blue chocolate shells around the cake.

Grandma Pat's birthday is 4 days after Camden's so I made her a cake as well.

Mom's cake was four layers.  It was a french vanilla cake with two layers of triple berry filling and one layer of lemon curd.  Everyone, except Camden, had it.  It was pretty impressive...and tasty!

Birthday Treat Request

Camden wanted cake pops as her birthday treat for school.  I used a white cake mix, tinted pink with food coloring and added the sprinkles with the funfetti frosting.  Covered in chocolate and drizzled with pink chocolate and she was pleased.  So were her friends at school.  We shared with the 4 & 5 year old classes and still had extra's so we took them to the 3 year olds.  She also took little water bottles for her class.

She got so much joy in taking the treat to each class and handing them out to each of her friends.

Birthday Dinner #2

A slightly wound up birthday girl had her dinner at Buffalo Wings (B-dubs or Buffalo Wild Wings to the rest of the world...but not to this expert-on-everything-four-year-old).

Liked this one in black & white...it was a not so great picture in color, but the sun is cool in her hair this way.

Birthday Dinner #1

Camden had two meal requests for her birthday dinner - the sun place and buffalo wings (and don't dare call it, buffalo WILD wings...).  We headed to Little Mexico for her pre-birthday dinner (our week has been busy with church activities and we've eaten out every night I think).

She likes to sit on the booth ledge while waiting for dinner.  She wanted a picture of herself with the mural.  She has such silly requests sometimes, but at least it's a cute picture of her.

Daddy got this beauty shot while waiting for our meals to arrive.

After dinner, four waiters brought out the hat and sang, "happy birthday."  Camden's smile was a mile wide.

They brought a huge fried ice cream with tons of whipped cream.  They teased her and "made" her get the cherry off the top using her mouth.  They smashed it a little in her face to give her a beard.  She giggled and giggled.

Happy 4th Birthday!

We could not have a more loving, funny, kind, and energetic child.  Every day is full of life and laughter because of you.  Happy birthday baby girl!

Love Week Carnival

Our church is reaching out to our community in various ways this week.  On Tuesday night, the three of us helped at a carnival for one of the lower income apartment complexes/neighborhoods.  For the first hour, Kevin and I handed out free ice cream sandwiches and popcorn in the concession stand.  Thankfully, one of Camden's Sunday School teachers when she was 1 & 2 volunteered to take her around to the games.  We watched from the concession window as Camden ran from game to game to inflatable obstacle course and laughed when her teacher brought her back and said, "Boy is she quick."

Waiting patiently in line...

After our shift, we did a few more games and runs through the inflatable.  Kevin took her to get her face painted.  She got balloons on each cheek (which she sweated off in about 20 minutes...no kidding.  Poor girl, when she gets hot (and boy was it hot) she gets my red face and sweats profusely like her daddy.

Tippecanoe Co. Fair Fun

We, of course, split an elephant ear, but we have discovered some of the best ice cream around is at the dairy tent at county fairs...this raspberry was a winner!

The midway finally opened and Camden rode 3 rides.  She could have stayed all day!
