Our dinner was at one of the Deluxe resorts called Wilderness Lodge. It had a huge open central area where all the rooms overlooked. It was like a Northwestern American National Park Lodge.
Our restaurant was called "Whispering Canyon Cafe." I chose this because it is famous for it's antics. For example, if you ask for ketchup, your waiter calls to the entire restaurant, "We need ketchup" and anyone who has ketchup on their table has to bring it to you. We actually ended up with about twice this amount and then had to take it to another table shortly afterward when they needed it.
Kevin had an all-you-can-eat skillet of ribs, chicken, pulled pork, sausage, mashed potatoes, cornbread, etc. I had a NY strip steak with blue cheese and Cabernet demi. Camden had a cheeseburger, fries, and all you can drink strawberry milkshake (turns out that is only part of one). It was so delicious!
At some point in the meal, they brought out wooden horses for the kids to parade around the restaurant. Camden really enjoyed this lively place.
After a fun dinner we took a boat across the lagoon to the Magic Kingdom. It had extended hours this night and was open until midnight.
We had Fast Passes (reserved spots that allow you to cut up the long lines to the front) for 3 rides that night. We headed for our first one - Peter Pan's Flight - and experienced the wonder of Disney. This is one of my favorite rides - not because of the thrill, but because of the awe. You really seem to be flying over London and Neverland as you follow the story of Peter Pan. Then we headed quickly to our next ride - Big Thunder Mountain - where Camden went on her first big roller coaster. She was hooked! Since it was after dark, there was the added component of not being able to see the twists and turns and she took to the speed and thrill like we expected.
The timing of everything was perfect and we were just at the right spot to catch the Main Street Electrical Parade as it wound through Adventureland.
I wasn't sure if Camden would be enthralled by these colorful floats but she wanted to watch the entire thing.
Immediately after the parade, it was time for the nightly fireworks program, called "Wishes". We decided to stay in our spot and watch it from the back of the castle. Camden was so excited that we still got to see Tinkerbell fly from the castle just before the show started (little spot to the right of the castle).
We made our way back across the park to our final Fast Pass - Space Mountain. This coaster is fast and completely in the dark. She could not contain herself afterward. Kevin and I had so much fun watching her have so much fun.
By this time it was getting late and we were going to head back to our room. On our way out, we passed a dance party that had the Incredibles interacting with people. Camden wasn't quite sure what to think and did NOT want to be near Frozone, Mr. Incredible or any of them. She just wanted to dance.
It was a very long, full start to our vacation (especially for Kevin who had worked the night before and only got snippets of sleep on the plane and about an hour in the room). But it was a great peek at what was to come!
