I like to do local food traditions when we visit an area. I knew we would get some St. Louis thin crust pizza with Provol cheese and some toasted ravioli later that night. But for a treat after a day at the zoo, I wanted to try the legendary frozen custard spot, Ted Drewes. The lines were long and the options many, but we all had some pretty tasty treats.
Their "blizzard"-like treat is called a "concrete" or "crete" for short. Austin had a "Bunny Crete" - it had all the stuff of a carrot cake (include fresh carrots) and got thumbs up from all 4 of us. Kevin and I split the Hawaiian which had pineapple, coconut, and macadamia nuts and the Brennan which had mocha and hazelnuts. I preferred the first; he preferred the later - perfect! Camden got strawberry. She loved it so much that she wouldn't even give us a bite! We had to be sneaky and hold her cup while she got in her car seat to even try it. It was some of the best I'd ever had.
Definitely worth the short detour after the zoo and on the list for future visits!
