Because New Market is so large (500 students), they did a concert series throughout the year to allow each grade to show off their music and art classes. Kindergarten and First Grade did the Spring Concert. I was so pleased with how it was organized and run. We walked in to the gym to empty seats waiting to be filled with 120 kiddos.
Promptly at 6:30, the students filed in and the concert began.
Camden (per usual) was cracking me up from the beginning. From her cute sitting position with legs crossed to her soulful (and robot!) dancing to each tune to her constant staring at me to make sure I was paying attention to her and enjoying the music - it was a joy!
The third song was about 10 bunnies. Guess who was bunny #10! And boy could she jump!
There were 7 songs songs done at their seats. Then each class went to a back section of the gym and lined up with a partner to do the Kindergarten Reel (a sweet version of the Virginia Reel). The teacher explained that they regularly do folk dancing in their class to learn cooperation, respect, and teamwork. Plus it's healthy and fun!
After the 30 minute program we headed to her classroom to pick her up and enjoy lots of artwork lining the walls.
The school has also had a fundraiser this month for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by selling tennis shoes and rubber ducks for $1. There are 2 students at New Market with this disease. Camden was proud to show her tennis shoe. I just read in the paper today that the school raised over $700 last month!
