Valentine's Box
Each year we make a Valentine's Day box for Camden to collect cards and treats at school. Each year she waits to the last minute to decide and we are scrambling the night before to get it done. This year, she spotted a kit at Meijer and decided that was what she wanted. Perfect! I like the homemade ones, but easy works in my book too.
We decorated it on Saturday so she is all set to take it to school on Wednesday.
Gold and silver glitter glue to attach everything.

There In!
Camden's glasses came in yesterday. I picked them up so she could start wearing them, but we will have to go back and get the fit adjusted when she is not sick. They did order them a size smaller than the ones we tried on and I think they fit her face much better!
Such a fashionista!
She did wear them briefly and couldn't believe how well she could see, but no pictures of them on her because she headed to bed around 7:30 with a migraine.

Fighting a Bad Cold
Camden is home from school for the second day. She does not have a fever, but has a bad cough, aches, scratchy throat, and general blahs. Technically she could go, but she would be miserable...and therefore her teacher, nurse, friends would be too. Probably going to keep her home one more day just to avoid sharing or getting germs. Lovin' from Bandit seems to make it a bit better.

Sunday Playdate
We had Papaw over for his birthday for Sunday lunch. Camden was begging to have a friend over afterward and I had said no. Then my phone dinged...it was Braxton wanting to know if Camden wanted to do something. We made arrangements for him to come over for the afternoon and dinner.
I had bought 2 slime kits that were on sale a few weeks ago, so we got them out and made some "galaxy slime" with glitter and some "unicorn slime" with gems. The kits have plenty more ingredients (minus the glue) so we can make slime again in the future.
They played with her laser tag guns for a bit, then we broke out the Pokemon Monopoly (Braxton is a big fan too). Braxton and I could have kept playing, but Camden was done after about 30-45 minutes. Braxton was a little mogul and was buying cheap property and putting houses on them quickly...and it was paying off. I declared him the winner.
Another good kid, good friend. Camden is making good choices in who she hangs out with.

Winter Camp
Camden spent Friday night and Saturday day at Twin Lakes Camp for Winter Camp. Besides the length of time, it is also run differently than summer camp in that our church sends a leader for the girls and one for the boys to serve as the "counselors." The kids stay together with their church group. It is a great way for them to bond together. From a picture on Facebook it also looks like it is a very small group of kids - only about 25 or 30. Her heading is just peeking up behind the kid with the orange coat/hood.
There were 6 girls there by the time we dropped Camden off. I think only one other one came after. These are fantastic girls that Kevin and I have gotten to know since we have taught them in Sunday School over the last 4 or 5 years.
We picked her up on Saturday evening just after dinner. The report from all was it was a great time!
I had never been in the cafeteria so was glad to see this room and have a bigger picture of where she is and what she does when she is at camp.
She is super excited for summer camp to get here!

So This Is Happening
Around Christmas I noticed she was squinting to see things in the distance...sometimes the TV, out at restaurants playing "I Spy," or at things across the room. Then when school was back in session, she started having frequent headaches. Not at migraine level, but enough to go to the school nurse and even take Tylenol! I suspected it was time to get her baby blues checked.
The doctor was not surprised she was having headaches. Her sight is significantly different in each eye causing quite a bit of strain and fight to focus. Her right eye is only at 20/40 so with squinting she can probably do okay, but her left is 20/100 so she can't see much at all. Her poor eye muscles have been working overtime. He said it was also not surprising that in the school screening last year there were no concerns and now there were. It can happen quickly.
She was excited to pick out frames. She immediately saw the gold sparkly ones, but they were adult frames and so we started looking at kids ones.
We had settled on these blue ones, but when I showed the woman who does the fitting, she said they were a little small for her because they were already "bowing" a bit to fit her face.
I asked her to assist (and by then all 3 ladies from the office were helping). Camden picked up the gold frames that she originally saw and the 3 of them went bonkers. Those were their favorite pair of glasses in the office! She put them on and they all but squealed with delight. I thought they were okay, but didn't like them very much on her. However Camden loved them, the ladies loved them, I showed my coworkers this morning and they loved them, so...
They are growing on me. When I pulled the picture up on my computer (rather than my phone), she is stickin' adorable in them. We will have them in 7-10 days. The doctor did warn that her headaches could get worse in the first week as her eyes adjust, but after that we should see good results. In the meantime, her teacher is moving her desk closer to the board which should help with the headaches.
