The Artist

My office walls are so bare.  I decided they needed some color from my resident artist.  She happily obliged me this afternoon.  Can't wait to hang it up in the morning.

I took the liberty of turning the painting over before adding her initials and year.  Liked how it made her circles more like hearts.  She proudly showed her daddy when he got up from his nap and proclaimed, "I'm an artist!"

Jump It!

Camden enjoyed a day care field trip to Jump It this summer.  We knew we wanted to check it out ourselves.  With no other big plans on our calendar this past weekend, we headed up to Lafayette for an afternoon of climbing, sliding, and moose sighting.

Fort Harrison - Monkey Bridge

The event ended at 6pm and we were headed toward the bus loading zone at about 5:30...along with 1/2 of the other people at the event.  Needless to say, the line was very long.  Kevin went to wait in line while Camden and I went to the restroom to clean her filthy dirty face from playing so hard.  As we got toward the end of the line to meet up with Kevin, we saw the Boy Scout booth was still going strong.  They had a rope bridge that Camden was up for trying.  Let me tell you, I was so thrilled to watch her do this.  She listened to the instructions, used her strong muscles to climb up to the starting perch, and crossed at a nice pace.  The spotters even seemed impressed with this little girl's effort.

We will definitely be watching for this annual event next fall.  What a great outdoor adventure!

Fort Harrison - Radio Disney

Another section was sponsored by Radio Disney.  Of course, Camden would have stayed there all day.  Lots of hands-on, small-kid friendly activities.  My favorite to watch her do was bow shooting.

When she concentrates, she juts her jaw forward.  Cracks me up!

Fort Harrison Outdoor Adventure II

The next section we went to was full of some of Kevin's favorite activities.  We bypassed the archery/shooting area because we weren't sure Camden would want to wait in line for those options and headed to the UTV's, Jeep, and mini tot motorcycles.  Camden really wanted to do the motorcycles so we signed the waivers and waited in the longest line!  Part of the reason it was long, however, was that they only had three cycles and they were giving the kids a very good amount of time to ride. Camden was patient and excited to do it.

We finally made it to the "holding" zone where she could put on a helmet.  Not quite sure why they gave her, one of the smallest kids, one of the bigger helmets, but she sure was adorable in it!

It was finally time for instructions on how to work the throttle and steer.

Her guy let her try to do it about 1/2 way around the loop and quickly realized she couldn't do both. Most of the kids had trouble with it. Similarly, all the smallest kids ended up being pushed/towed around the circle, only having to steer. Camden's trainer switched her to this mode at that point.

I was so proud of her for trying this.  However, Kevin and I could only groan when, after two loops, she turned to her guy and said, "I'm done."  Are you kidding!  Over an hour in line in the hot sun for TWO laps!

She absolutely loved it, too!  Go figure!

Fort Harrison Outdoor Adventure I

The Indiana DNR hosted a huge (and free) outdoor adventure at Fort Harrison in Indy this weekend.  There were four sections of the 1700 acre state park dedicated to all kinds of activities to enjoy and explore.  About 30,000+ people (and us) were there over the two days.

A school bus shuttled us into the Fort from a nearby parking lot.  The loading area was near a really great playground.  Camden probably could have stayed on this slide all day.

Across the way was a sledding hill that was set-up for running.  It was a good size endeavor.  Camden jogged up by herself along the side then came barreling down.  She did it twice with a huge smile on her face.  Her favorite speed is fast, so this was an excellent way to start the activities.  That's her up in the top right corner.

We stopped to make some stamps.

But only briefly because right beside this booth were horses.  This station was about saddling and packing, not riding (that activity was in another part of the park).

In this area they also had hay rides, bicycles available to ride on trails, mountain bikes to climb some hills, and many other similarly themed spots.  It appeared that various clubs and organizations around the specific activity sponsored the various booths.  Unbelievable what all was available to try - for free!  The only downsize was having to wait for some of the "cooler" options.  We stood in line for a while to do a wall climb, but it was really taking too long.  Kevin and I also couldn't try some of the things we wanted because they weren't easy to accomplish with a 4 year old in tow.  Of course, our whole intention was to give Camden an opportunity to try some new things.  More on other sections of the "party" (as Camden called it) to come.

Gander Mountain

A new Gander Mountain store opened in Lafayette this week.  At the top of Kevin's weekend to-do list was a visit to check it out.  No great, Grand Opening specials, but Camden had a great time getting new tattoos and a cool pheasant hat.

Wea Creek Orchard

Every fall I like to go to an orchard and get apples.  I recently learned of a new one in Lafayette.  It's early in the season, but it was a beautiful Saturday morning to explore.

A short trek past the trees and we found a pumpkin and gourd patch.  We decided not to get our porch pumpkins, but did pick a few small gourds.

A nice small market to buy apples, a fire going outside the two barns, and a great cost (free!) to explore made for a wonderful adventure.

One of the many things we love about Trader Joe's!

Trader's Point Creamery

Sunday afternoon we took a drive to Indy.  Kevin showed us where he has been working the past month (Hawthorn Yard in Beech Grove), then we headed to Trader's Point Creamery.  They produce local, organic milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.  We took a self-guided tour of the property.  Actually didn't see many cows, but had a nice walk along the Eagle Creek.

After making the 1.5 mile trek, we stopped back at the Dairy Bar for some Trader's Point ice cream and European-style yogurt (drinkable).  Thumb's up!
