Poor Baby

Bandit had a swollen eye that he was not opening.  It was red and his whole eye looked black - very dilated.  We weren't sure what was going on.  Maybe he got scratched by Cheddar.  Maybe he was injured in a squabble one night he was outside overnight.  Maybe he ran into a branch.  Maybe it was pink eye.  I noticed it on Friday and we gave it through the weekend to see if it corrected itself.

Monday it was not better and so I took him to the vet.  She was able to get the eye open and take a look. He had a huge ulcer (probably one of the scenarios from above).  We have some ointment that I put in his eye twice a day and a pain pill.  We go back on Friday to see if it's healing.

Selfies at the Zoo

We wanted to do something together before Camden left for camp.  We headed to Lafayette for mini golf on Saturday.  It was a beautiful day, so we were going to try the outdoor course.

We went to Chick-fil-a for lunch and decided it was a good day just to go to Columbian Park and enjoy the zoo and playground.  Kevin and I found a nice bench in the shade while the girls roamed and visited the animals.

When the girls came to check in, we added them to the mix.

As we left the zoo, the three of them got the world spinning quickly and cooled off with a water fight.

They played on the playground for a bit, then we got shaved ice at the stand by Frozen Custard.  Summer time fun!!

4H Awards

Camden had great results for her 4H projects:

Photography = Blue Star/County Champion - selected to go to State Fair!

Crafts - Fine Arts = Blue Star

Foods = Blue

Food Preservation = Blue Star/County Champion - selected to go to State Fair!

Since she got a Blue Star on her food preservation, she got to participate in the food auction.  For this project, they only give the winning bid the recipe card, not the product.

Several of the items get very high bids because family/sponsors are there.  The kids get a percentage of the funds and 4H gets the other part.  Camden was disappointed that her card only got the opening bid of $20.  I pointed out that for 5 minutes of her time to stand in front of the group, it was a good payout.   She needed to check her attitude since it was a good result...and a good lesson about gratitude.

So proud of her and her accomplishments this year!

Fireworks

We got a few fireworks, but not nearly what we have done in previous years for Camden's birthday.  We set them off on Saturday night and enjoyed a nice little show.

Twin Lakes Camp 2019

I dropped Camden off at Twin Lakes Camp last night.  This is her first year at Middle School week.  Sophia is also going!  The two are so excited.

They are in the same cabin together, but, even though we were at the beginning of the drop-off window, we were the last ones to arrive.  Despite their plotting, Camden got a top bunk and Sophia got a bottom bunk and they are in different beds.  Sophia is quite nervous about being gone from home for a week.

Their counselor is Megan.  She is from Texas, but grew up coming to Twin Lakes Camp.  She was a camper for 7 years and has been a counselor for 4.  Their counselor in training is Lucy.  She is from Danville, IN and goes to Danville Community High School.  Miss Rachel Braund was her sewing teacher last year!
