5th Grade Picnic

The way our school decided to commemorate the graduation of the 5th graders was with a family picnic.  The PTO ran it and borrowed the luau decorations from the Southmont prom the weekend before.  It was held on the last Friday night of school.

The PTO provide hot dogs and drinks while the families pitched in sides and desserts.

A DJ provide music fro the shelter and the families enjoyed the playgrounds and yard games.

The art teacher also unveiled the permanent mural that will be hung in the halls of New Market.  It is a tradition she started last year with each graduating class.  The wood is actually the old, original bleachers that were removed last summer during renovations.  Each 5th grader has a square with their handprint on it.

It was a nice evening...until Camden got a headache and she and Kevin headed home about 45 minutes into the evening.  They had about a 3 hour recess that day at school and she ran around for most of the time she was at the picnic.  Definitely seeing heavy physical exertion/exercise is one of her triggers (it's one of the common ones).

Now and Then

The New Market Elementary art teacher is truly one of the best!  She kept the self portraits the kids drew in 1st grade and then had them draw another one this year as 5th graders.  She hung them up, side-by-side for us to enjoy.

Camden had her purple streak when she did this years.  LOVE!

Awards Ceremony

Camden made semester A-B honor roll all year and received a certificate and medal.  She also got a certificate for participating in the Invention Convention.

I also got an award...kinda silly to recognize a parent during this ceremony, but my role in the PTO over the years was recognized.  I had been wanting one of these art pieces since we started auctioning them at the carnival each year.  I was never willing to pay the price to get Camden's class piece.  This one has a thumbprint from every 5th grader on it.  Mrs. Snook (art teacher) then makes each into a butterfly or flower or such.  It's beautiful!

One last good-bye to her teacher, Mr. Sayler.

It's the last day of school!  It's the last day of Elementary!

We celebrated with breakfast at McDonald's.

5th Grade Poster

Another tradition at New Market.  Thankful to have this blog so that I can quickly find my favorite pictures and print them off.

We weren't sure they were going to do this until the last minute, so it's pretty plain.  To "spruce" it up and make it uniquely Camden, I asked her for some of her favorite things.  Then I found some clip art of those items, created my own paper from it and free formed the letters of her name.

Cats, sushi, Gacha, unicorns, swimming, and golf made the list.

Love my girl!

Art Club Field Trip

The 26 kids that were in Art Club this year went to the Lafayette Art Museum this week.  The spent time doing an art project (thumbprint scenes) and touring the latest exhibit.

I took a few pictures before I got in "trouble" for using a camera in the museum.

After the museum we headed to Columbian Park to eat our sack lunches, then we walked to Frozen Custard to get ice cream.  Camden requested "What the Fudge" and I got black raspberry.  It was a taste of my childhood...that flavor was my go-to as a kid and I hadn't had it in forever!

Mother's Day Gifts

My kiddo picked out the cutest card for my day.

She also gave me a most beautiful rose bush because I love them and wanted another one in the front of our house.  Hopefully it transplants well.

She and Kevin also gave me tickets to an escape room that our Rotary Jail Museum is currently doing.  Unfortunately, we bought tickets for last Friday night...and I was sick!  They stated that there were no refunds, but Kevin called and they are letting us come this weekend instead.  The celebration continues.
