Town of Waveland Halloween Party

Our town hosts a little gathering at our town park in the half-hour before trick-or-treating hours.  They do a costume contest and give out slices of pizza and water.  About 40 kids showed up.  It's a nice start to the evening.

House Decorations

I saw this spider decoration on a PTO website.  It's made from trash bags and seemed simple to do.  And it was!  We have large bags, so I ended up only using two and it took all of 5 minutes.

It was so windy Halloween week that I didn't get it up for very long, but I think I will do it again.

Camden loves our little gravestone/cemetery that we have done the past few years so I was sure to put it up as well.  The mums were what Kevin gave me for our anniversary and they actually look halfway decent in this picture.  However, I put them in the cemetery since they were hit by a  freeze and were actually quite dead.  Up close it looks more appropriate.

School Halloween Party

I was the room parent in charge of the classroom Halloween party.  I planned three games and had four other parents who assisted with the activities and/or brought in snacks.

I thought they would love the classic game where you reach in and feel what's inside a box.  They each had a slip of paper where they had to guess the monster body part and what the actual item was. Things like brain (jello), teeth (candy corn), intestines (spaghetti), ears (dried apricot), and eyes (grapes).

We also did a tossing game where they had to get as many tootsie rolls into the pumpkin pail.

Not a great picture of Camden but I loved that I captured the tootsie roll just as it went into the pail.

We played a really fun group game called Last Man Standing and then had snacks.  I love the cute monster cupcakes that one of the kids' mom brought.

Another parent sent in a goodie bag of treats to send home with the kids and I made a Halloween S'mores pack for each child.

Mrs. Chadd and the kids loved the party (it was really fun)!  That's success to me!

Toothless the Dragon

Camden's costume is actually a character from the movie "How to Train Your Dragon."  It's name is Toothless.  I have never seen the movie, but everyone would see her and say, "Aw, it's Toothless!" and think it was so great.  Apparently a very beloved character.

At one point in the evening, she stood by this tree and asked me to take a few pictures as she posed.  My little dragon model.

Trunk or Treat

Camden and I went to two Trunk or Treat events this week.  The best one, by far, was in Greencastle on Thursday night.

I really like to make Halloween costumes, but just didn't want to this year.  By the time I bought the material and spent the time, I would have the put way more into it than this one cost.  Plus it is a really cool dragon (what she requested to be this year) that kept her plenty warm.

She LOVED posing and pretending to be a dragon.

There were probably only 15 or so trunks, but they had fun music playing, face painting, and a hayride.  It was held at a church that also had a nice playground. Camden enjoyed that almost as much as anything else.

Her favorite, of course!

She requested a black cat at the face painting.  The teen who did it did well for the quality of paint they had and the short amount of time.

I let her ride the hayride around the church grounds by herself.  She thought that was such a big thing!

She made a few friends at the playground and spent a lot of time swinging and chasing.

Star of the Week

Each week in Mrs. Chadd's class, one student is Star of the Week.  They bring in a poster with pictures of their lives, get to read a book to someone in the school (she chose to read to Mrs. Gonczarow's class), and get a book of notes from each of their classmates.

Last week was Camden's turn.  I printed off various pictures from her blog.  We focused on family, pets, travel, and things she likes.

The dinosaurs are the only 3-D items and one of them fell off during the week at school.  Camden taped it back on.

Change of Plans

Kevin went hunting in southern Indiana with Uncle Ric over the weekend.  Aunt Carole made plans with Camden and I to go to Gramma Pat's for a girls weekend.  We wanted to have lunch at a fru-fru herb garden/farm near Columbus and shop in historic Madison.

But Friday morning, we got a call that Grammy wasn't doing well.  We all switched gears and made plans to stay in Lafayette.  Gramma Pat had to be part of some family discussions about Grammy's health future.  In between visits to the nursing home, we managed to eat at a few new restaurants (and a Lafayette favorite Mexican), bake a yummy dessert, and just have time together.

Hopefully, there will be another girls weekend in the future.
