Hatchimals

This past Christmas a toy called "Hatchimals" was the rage.  You couldn't find them anywhere and the asking price was over $100 on a $25 item.  Needless to say, I have since seen the product in stores for $10.

We were at a Target in Indy a few weekends ago and Camden saw a miniature Hatchimal egg.  Since I refused to pay for one last Christmas and I really didn't want to mess with a big one, I let her get this one.

She rubbed on it to get it to hatch and had a cute toy animal surprise inside.  I think that cured her Hatchimal itch.

Hershey's Drive In

Tried a new ice cream place last week.  We give a thumbs up to Hershey's in Veedersburg.  Next time we will have to try some of the food.  Heard the tenderloins and burgers are delicious!

More Friend Time

She loved having Paxton come home on the bus and stay for dinner.  A game of Life and time on the trampoline (as well as homework getting done) was an excellent evening in her book!

Busy Saturday

Saturday was a full day of fun.  Kevin was in the woods getting trails cleared in anticipation of deer season.  Camden and I headed out for fun with her friend Rhianah.

We had lunch at Little Mexico.

Played in the fountain and hunted for painted rocks (Camden found on in the fountain).

Headed to the Library for some imagination play.

Back to our house for a little bit more play time with Rhianah AND Molly.  When Rhianah went home, Gramma Pat came over and we headed to the taste.  Molly came with us and they ran into some other friends.  They ate some (we "tasted" lots) and then spent lots of time running around and playing tag on the beautiful grounds of the Lew Wallace Study.

We got our fill, headed home, and picked some veggies from the garden for Gramma Pat to take for her and Aunt Linda.

We played some Skip-bo and someone (Gramma Pat) FINALLY beat Kevin.

Indian Beads

Sugar Creek runs are still one of this girls favorite things.

She and her dad are always finding such interesting items.

Especially lots of indian beads and shells.  See the quarter (left side) to compare size of beads.

Hidden Treasures

I often find pictures on my phone after Camden has been playing.  She has, apparently, mastered the selfie and how to place it into an image.

What a goof!

Solar Eclipse

It rained!  We missed the majority of the eclipse because of rain.   Camden got to see the beginning at school.

By the time I headed out to watch with the rest of Wabash College on the mall, it started raining, then pouring, then storming.

Finally the rain passed and we were able to see the end of it.

When I asked Camden about it at dinner, she said, "It was raining so they cancelled the eclipse."

Two Princesses

Camden loves her new castle.  She can be found playing beneath it by herself or with a friend.  Bandit also considers it his home.  If we can't find him, we usually check here and discover him.

It is a really cute design.  I do think I'm going to tie the ties differently and see if it hangs a little better (one of the curtains was also off...it is played with!).

Life

Molly was over the other night and we got games out to play.  Life was the choice and for the past week it has become a regular event.  We even talked Papaw into a game of it.

My favorite thing to report, though, is that Camden has taken on the role of the banker.  She does a good job of counting out our salaries and processing the various cards.

Garden Bounty

The main thing the deer avoided were tomatoes and peppers.   I have been making various "experiments" with them so we don't get tired of them.  One of our favorites has been a tomato tart.

One night I made it as a side dish and another night as the main dish with JalapĂ©no poppers on the side.  A definite new favorite!

Mrs. Clifton's Class

The group of kids in 4th grade is the smallest number in the school.  There are 55 students.  For the past 3 years, they have had 3 classes of 15-18 students.  This year, the school decided to just divide them into 2 classes and so they now have 27-28 students.  It will be a big adjustment for all!

The other thing that came out of that is there is no longer one high ability class.  I agree that with only two classes you don't want labels like that.  So they have split the high ability students into 2 clusters and placed them in each room.  Each teacher will have special assignments and work time with high ability lessons for the clusters.  I think that will work well for Camden and help her thrive in the areas she is strongest.

First Day of School Evening

Camden had her 6-month cleaning and they found a bit of a cavity on the edge of one of her baby teeth.  Of course it's one she will have for another 3-4 years so we have to deal with it.  They had a 4 o'clock appointment on the first day of school but we took it.  She would only have to miss 15 minutes of the end of the day.

No shots or drilling were necessary.  They gave her some laughing gas through a nose tube and simply had to scrape the edge of her tooth and build it back up with "teeth mortar."  Took about 5 minutes.

Her dentist is wonderful and report that she did fabulous.  When I saw her (and you can see it a little in the photo), her face and eyes made me think she was miserable.  But she was her fine, even happy (maybe it was the laughing gas).  She got her treat coin and picked her prize.

Nice thing was she could eat and drink immediately so we opted for a Sonic strawberry limeade!

Since we were near good stores, we stopped at a shoe store and got some new tennis shoes.  I knew she was at the top range of girl sizes, so we shopped in the women's.  I assumed that the sizes just kept going so if 5 girls were too small, she would wear a 6 women's.  Nope.  Apparently boys sizes work that way, but women's jump a bit.  So I just bought my 9 year-old daughter a size 8 women's sneaker.  NOT POSSIBLE!

Of course after dinner - BLT's with bacon from a local farm and juicy ripe tomatoes from our garden - we headed out for our annual first day of school ice cream.  Dari-licious was the choice this year.  Always with a cherry on top.
