Happy Easter

We picked a cute pink dress with butterflies for her Easter dress.

It was like $6 at Walmart.  It's a very practical purchase that will get lots of wear this summer.  The temperatures were in the high 40's, so not quite warm enough for a sleeveless Spring dress and I didn't have a dress sweater or white shirt in her size.  I had her wear her black long sleeve shirt.  Kevin thought it would look much better with some black leggings too (I agree but we were running late and I didn't want to go on my own hunt this morning).  Still so cute!

When I tried to get one more picture that she didn't want to take, I got a stink face and upset leg twirl.  Still pretty adorable picture.

Easter Party

On Thursday, the last day of school before a week off for Spring Break, Camden had her school Easter party.  "Mr. Kevin" was there to take pictures and help hide Easter eggs for the "big" outdoor hunt.

After filling their chick baskets (so cute!), the went inside their classroom to open the eggs and discover their treasures.  Camden cleaned up with a full basket of candy and trinkets.

They had made the chick baskets last week.  Camden reported it took LOTS of glue to get all the cotton balls stuck to the milk carton.  I had to get a close-up at home.  They are so adorable.

Next were a round of games.  "Hot Egg" (like hot potato), egg on a spoon relay, and three legged bunny hop race.

Easter Cookies

Monday's activity was planned to make cookie dough that they would cut into shapes and decorate on Wednesday.  Since school was cancelled, they made the dough immediately after egg dyeing.

They each got a turn measuring something and adding it to the dough.  To make it stretch for 23 kids, Miss Lana divided everything up....4 cups of flour were measured in 1/2 cup quantities.  Genius!

Dyeing Eggs

Camden has lots of activities this week at school in anticipation of Easter.  Miss Lana has done an amazing job (as normal) of focusing on the true meaning, but also splashes in lots of the traditions as well.  School was cancelled on Monday for weather, but on Tuesday they dyed eggs.

Since Kevin is working 2nd shift, he was able to go over in the morning and help.  Camden was beaming!  She was so pleased that her daddy came.  All the kids invited him to come back on Thursday for their Easter party.  He accepted their invitation.

HUNT!

The grounds were divided into four age groups and their was plenty of "stuff" in each section.  I would guess about 200-250 kids were in each age group. When we entered the gate, each kid was handed a nice sized, fluffy brown stuffed bunny.  Very adorable...and what a great way to make sure every kid got something nice.  But there was really no doubt we would walk away with our buckets full.

Look at all those eggs...and prizes!

At some point, I lost Paxton.  He went in one direction and Camden went in another.  It was quite the balancing act trying to guide her and not lose him.  I'm so thankful that Camden has never been one of those kids that wanders away.  Even on school field trips, I've noticed that Paxton is.  Anyway, he was only a few feet away, but didn't get very many eggs.  It's amazing how they need help seeing an egg amid all the eggs.  I think it's just so overwhelming to them.  Camden shared some of hers and they both seemed satisfied.  Paxton scored a sun along with his bunny and Camden got a duck, a sun, and a bunny dressed as a frog holding a bear (so cute!), along with her bunny.  Together they had quite the stash.

The other nice thing is that most of the eggs were filled with stickers and small trinkets and NOT candy.  There were a few with laffy taffys or jolly rangers, but not much chocolate.  She was thrilled.

Waiting and Waiting...

The four of us (Paxton came too) headed out on Saturday morning for Crawfordsville's community Egg Hunt at the Lew Wallace Study.  The local paper said it went from 11am-1pm, so we arrived about 10:30am.  The place was empty but a handful of people.  Huh!?!

Turns out the paper had it wrong - it started at 1pm.  People were there beginning to set up and let us know that "outside the gate" activities would begin a little after noon and the gates would open about 12:45pm.  So we headed out to kill some time.  Unfortunately Kevin had to head to work, so he would miss out on the fun.  But when the three of us got back, the streets were blocked and the crowds were starting to boom.  Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny were in the midst and they had sidewalk chalk and bubbles to fill the wait time.  We could see inside the fence that the ground was LOADED down with eggs and prizes.  The event is sponsored by NUCOR Steel and they did it right!
