One of my favorite excursions of the trip was to the Tybee Light. It was beautifully restored.
Then we climbed the 178 steps to the top of the light.
Camden did it on her own (at her very grumpy insistance - notice a theme?). It was nice that there were window inlets at every few turns, so that we could get nice views and take a short breather.
Once at the top, we looked out over the ocean and back toward the island. We spotted our hotel and other places we were familiar with. It was such a gorgeous day, which made the views even more wonderful.
The light itself was pretty interesting.
Next door to the light station was Fort Sevren. This fort was used to train troops (and stand guard) on Tybee through the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II. It was also used as a deep sea diving training center by the military before it was closed and sold to the town of Tybee to be used as a history museum of the fort and town.
