Fort Pulaski Grounds

Our pass to the Fort was good for the week.  There were other areas to explore on the grounds, so we returned later in the week to hike around.

In one direction, we headed to the river and saw another magazine and some via duct ruins that were built by Robert E. Lee when he was a young engineer.

Another historic event that happened at this location was the first sermon by John Welsey in America.  He is the founder of the Methodist Church.  His ship from England landed here and his first order of business was to preach.  A monument commemorates that event.

We walked further down some paths and out to the Cockspur Light house.  The tide was high and prevented us from making it to the actual light, but we got within 20 feet.

A view of our condo in the background.

An the hike back, we had some additional views of the fort again.

We also found another great climbing tree that Camden tried out.

The fort and the grounds were another highlight of the things we did on this trip.  Both Kevin and I enjoyed these outings tremendously.
