Day 5: Idaho Springs

We headed into Idaho Springs for lunch. This was the furthest we went into the Rockies (although we didn't spy any mountain goats). It was a great little mountain community with lots of shops. Our only stop in town, though, was for lunch at Beau Jo's pizza. Camden and I did run into a little store next to the restaurant and found a little stuffed baby deer ("dur") for her to keep as a souvenir. Then Kevin and Camden colored while we waited to order.

We started with a great trip to the salad bar, which was set up in two large claw-foot tubs. Then we had the most incredible deep dish pie that they called a "mountain pie" because of it's large crust.

The most unusual thing about the place was that there were bottles of honey on the table. I didn't know what they were for, until the pizza arrived and Lora explained that when you eat a slice and get down to the crust, you put the honey on. Sounds a little strange, maybe, but it was the best piece of warm, fresh bread with yummy Colorado honey. WOW!
