Fireworks

Kevin was grilling on our back porch and the maintenance guy stopped by and introduced himself and told us that the next night (Saturday, July 2) the two houses behind us have a huge fireworks display - rivaling the best any small town around here does.  We would be able to sit on our porch and watch them.  The next night, our neighbor came by to introduce herself and told us fireworks would be going off when it got dark.  We would be able to see them from our porch.  Apparently we have the best built-in seat in the neighborhood.

I head outside just before 9 and see that they weren't kidding.

(slight zoom above; no zoom below)

Camden brought out her poppers while we waited (we aren't allowed any fireworks at the complex).

A neighborhood boy was hanging out with his family in the garage driveway of the apartment on the other side of our courtyard.  The two of them played and hung out the entire evening.  We decided to lit up the grill and roast some marshmallows.  I realized I had some mini crunch bars and graham crackers so we each enjoyed a s'more.

Lanterns seem to be all the rage this summer and the boys family sent one up.  Have to admit it was pretty cool.

Then the fireworks began.  So fun to be so close.  Thankfully the wind was blowing in the right direction and we got none of the ash raining down on us.  It was spectacular!

Sometimes it was so bright...we were almost too close.  Camden says next year we will have to invite people over.

As much as I enjoyed the show, I really hope there isn't a "next year".
