Bike Practice

Camden got a nice little bike a few years ago from some friends and had only rode it a little bit on the sidewalk in front of our house.  It has been hard to push the issue much because 1) our driveway and most of our street is gravel and 2) she didn't have a bike helmet.

We rectified the second issue this weekend when we found a nice helmet on 60% clearance!  So despite the heat, we headed to the top of our road where it's paved and let her loose.  She had been playing outside and was getting pretty hot and ready to go inside, so we kept the session fairly short.

She did fairly well, but has a few things to work on.  First, the bike has pedal brakes, so she often stops just when she is gaining momentum because she pushes back on the pedal.  Second, she wants to watch her feet and doesn't look up and/or steer.  With a little more practice she'll be zooming by us soon.

E wants a bike so badly ... we just keep putting it off, but we've got to do it soon!
