Camden was supposed to have her Kindergarten screening two weeks ago...well, actually three weeks, but because of the Kid's Kingdom field trip we rescheduled it. The school called the morning of the rescheduled testing and asked if we could reschedule again. It was the second morning of the ISTEP fiasco in Indiana and we figured the principal/teachers were busy dealing with it. We finally got it done this week.
She first went with the speech and hearing teacher (pictured below). When she brought her back she asked if Camden had ever had anything reported about her ears or did she have allergies or a bad cold right now? Apparently her right ear was testing low...she said there is an "acceptable" low (she would do fine in the classroom) and one that doesn't meet state requirements. She really didn't clarify where Camden fell exactly, but simply said they would retest her in the fall. I told her I believed she was suffering from pretty bad allergies and we've had a nasty cold going around our house. Given that she thought it might be good to have her pediatrician look at it if we were there before the school year started (yes in June).
She also spent about 10 minutes with the kindergarten teacher showing what she knew. We heard her count to 100 out in the hall. The secretary (in the purple above) said that was pretty impressive since they consider counting to 40 entering Kindergarten as excellent. Camden later reported that she had to identify colors, count some objects, and write her name. The teacher proclaimed that she did, "Excellent." We are all looking forward to the fall!
Camden has recently been obsessed with "spy cameras" on buildings. She requested a picture with the one at the school. Probably the best picture I got of her at the school!
