The Indiana DNR hosted a huge (and free) outdoor adventure at Fort Harrison in Indy this weekend. There were four sections of the 1700 acre state park dedicated to all kinds of activities to enjoy and explore. About 30,000+ people (and us) were there over the two days.
A school bus shuttled us into the Fort from a nearby parking lot. The loading area was near a really great playground. Camden probably could have stayed on this slide all day.
Across the way was a sledding hill that was set-up for running. It was a good size endeavor. Camden jogged up by herself along the side then came barreling down. She did it twice with a huge smile on her face. Her favorite speed is fast, so this was an excellent way to start the activities. That's her up in the top right corner.
We stopped to make some stamps.
But only briefly because right beside this booth were horses. This station was about saddling and packing, not riding (that activity was in another part of the park).
In this area they also had hay rides, bicycles available to ride on trails, mountain bikes to climb some hills, and many other similarly themed spots. It appeared that various clubs and organizations around the specific activity sponsored the various booths. Unbelievable what all was available to try - for free! The only downsize was having to wait for some of the "cooler" options. We stood in line for a while to do a wall climb, but it was really taking too long. Kevin and I also couldn't try some of the things we wanted because they weren't easy to accomplish with a 4 year old in tow. Of course, our whole intention was to give Camden an opportunity to try some new things. More on other sections of the "party" (as Camden called it) to come.
