Race For Education 2018

This is Camden's last Race.  Mine too.  I have always MC this event (the easiest part of this fundraiser), but we (the PTO) have been transitioning me out.  So I got to be a lap marker so the kids could keep track of the distance they completed.

The fifth graders were assigned purple as their color.  Camden wanted to color her hair for the day, which I was all for.  Most of the temporary dyes lasted 5-10 days (which was okay), but the halloween spray on stuff was on sale.  I found a "purple glitter" can.  Perfect and cheap.  The morning of the race I sprayed it on and all it did was make her hair like a helmet with a little bit of sparkles.  BOO!  The can showed the hair purple with sparkles.  I was so disappointed, not so perfect!

And they're off!

After the run, everyone gets popsicles to cool down.  Looks like it was a successful event...we have raised, to date, $14,000.

Ironman 2018

Per tradition, these three headed to Ironman for the Saturday races.

They have opened the course to another field just about 1/2 mile from us.  Camden was lamenting that they just needed to come a little further into our field and then she could just watch from her trampoline.

But then quickly added that she wouldn't want that because then she would get a cheesecake on a stick.

Bedtime With Bandit & Ginger

Bandit has become more of an outside cat than in.  But when she is inside, you can usually find her in Camden's bed.

Ginger is becoming more of an inside dog than out.  But when she sleeps inside, it is usually in her bed next to my side...or on our bed with Kevin (until I kick her out).

What silly animals we have!

Gingerbread Castle

The Crawfordsville Kiwanis' added a 5th grade gingerbread decorating contest to their 44th annual holiday bazaar.  Mr. Sayler sent out a request for someone to help on Wednesday before it was due on Saturday morning.  I (stupidly) volunteered.  I talked to the class and we settled on a haunted castle.  I found a castle template, baked the required pieces, made royal icing and brought them in to decorate on Friday afternoon.  I saw where a professional gingerbread artist decorates the pieces first and then assembles.  So we had all sorts of various candy and the kids went to town.

It was a mess and the kids just kept adding!  When I went to assemble, I knew I was in for a difficult challenge.

The attempt before school got out collapsed, so I took the pieces home and finished it there.  All the candy they had added were just not going to work and it was going to looks horrid.  Knowing we weren't going to win and struggling to have it work, I almost gave up.  Then I remembered it was a fundraising...and supposed to be done by 5th graders.  I scrapped a bunch of the candy and just put glitter on most walls.  I simplified the design and got something together.

I ran into some friends of ours that night and the event came up.  They said her two boys just loved the spooky castle one.  HA!  I'll take a fan favorite vote every time!

A few of the others that were so cute.

One of the other 5th grade classes at New Market won the pizza party prize by having the most money votes.  Guess a well done classic is always a winner!

Library Halloween

The Crawfordsville Library had a Halloween activity night the week before the actual holiday.  Sophia borrowed Camden's Pikachu outfit and the two Pokemon headed for an evening of games, snacks, and crafts.

Swimming & Sleepover

Also over Fall Break, Camden had two of her friends for a sleepover.  We went earlier in the afternoon to the Monon Center in Carmel for some indoor waterslide fun.

Afterward, we had dinner at Red Robin...YUMMM!

The next morning we played several games before the girl's parents picked them up.

Bella had to keep Ginger away...she just wanted her turn!

Covered Bridge Festival 2018

Over Fall Break, we headed for an afternoon in Rockville at the Covered Bridge Festival.
